Brent Burns enters 23rd NHL season chasing ironman record

Brent Burns, the 41-year-old defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche, is entering his 23rd NHL season with a refreshed appearance, having trimmed his signature beard and updated his hairstyle. After signing a one-year contract extension in June, Burns remains focused on competition despite his veteran status.

Burns currently holds a streak of 1,007 consecutive regular-season games played. He is 57 games away from tying Phil Kessel’s all-time ironman record. If he maintains his health, the milestone could be reached in mid-February during games against Tampa Bay and Columbus. While the record is a significant statistical possibility, Burns stated he prefers to focus on daily preparations rather than the milestone itself.

Teammates and coaches have noted his high energy and conditioning. Brock Nelson described Burns as having the spirit of a much younger player, while coach Jared Bednar praised his physical fitness heading into training camp.
