Turkey raises motorine price amid global oil price surge
On July 7 2026 the Turkish government increased the motorine (diesel) retail price by 1.31 TL per litre, bringing the average price in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir to between 65‑67 TL. A further rise of 0.76 TL is scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, which would push the total increase over two days to about 2.07 TL.
The hike follows the planned phase‑out of the "EŞEL Mobile" tax support system: the extra VAT exemption will be reduced by 50 % by 31 July, by another 25 % during August‑September, and will end completely on 1 October 2026.
At the same time, international oil markets see Brent crude trading near $72.75 per barrel, driven by heightened geopolitical risk in the Strait of Hormuz and a production increase decision by OPEC+ to add 188,000 barrels per day from August. These global price pressures are reflected in the domestic fuel price adjustments.
