Brent Peterson, former NHL player and Predators coach, dies at 68

Former NHL player, coach, and broadcaster Brent Peterson has passed away at the age of 68. The Nashville Predators announced his death on Friday, noting that Peterson had been battling Parkinson’s Disease since his diagnosis in 2002.

A native of Calgary, Peterson played 11 seasons in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, and Hartford Whalers, recording 213 points in 620 games. Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, notably leading the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks to a Memorial Cup in 1998 and earning WHL Coach of the Year honors in 1997.

Peterson was a foundational member of the Nashville Predators organization, serving as an assistant coach from the team’s expansion in 1998 until 2011, and later working as a radio broadcaster from 2014 to 2017. In 2009, he established the Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s to support those living with the disease.
