Brent Strom rejoins Houston Astros as pitching consultant

The Houston Astros have rehired veteran Brent Strom as a pitching consultant for the remainder of the season. Strom, who previously served as the team’s pitching coach from 2014 to 2021, will join the dugout starting with the team’s series against the New York Mets.

Astros manager Joe Espada expressed enthusiasm for the move, noting that Strom is one of the “architects for this organization on the pitching side of things.” The decision comes as the team seeks to bolster a struggling pitching staff during their push for the division title.

During his previous tenure in Houston, Strom was highly regarded for his ability to combine traditional coaching with pitch data, overseeing Cy Young Award-winning seasons for pitchers such as Dallas Keucheland and Justin Verlander. He most recently served as an assistant pitching coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
