Brent Venables signs $63 million contract extension with Oklahoma

Details have been released regarding Brent Venables’ contract extension with the University of Oklahoma. The six-year, $63 million agreement, finalized in October, extends his tenure through January 31, 2032.

If the university fires Venables without cause following the 2026 season, the buyout would amount to approximately $51.67 million. This figure decreases annually over the life of the contract, dropping to $830,000 by 2031. Conversely, if Venables leaves voluntarily for another position, he would owe the university a declining amount, starting at $10 million after the 2026 season.

The new deal includes performance-based incentives tied to the College Football Playoff, offering $500,000 for reaching the tournament and an additional $500,000 for each victory. Other bonuses are available for SEC championship game participation and winning, as well as being named Conference Coach of the Year.
