Brescia police arrest nine for kidnapping and extortion

Nine Indian nationals have been arrested by the Polizia di Stato following an investigation into the kidnapping, assault, and extortion of a compatriot. The operation, coordinated by the Brescia District Antimafia Directorate, resulted in eight individuals being sent to prison and one placed under house arrest.

The investigation began on January 9 in Ghedi, when three suspects were caught in the act of forcing a man and his mother to withdraw 6,000 euros from a post office using semi-automatic pistols. The victims managed to alert an off-duty police officer and local authorities present at the scene.

Police reconstruction revealed that the victim had been kidnapped and beaten starting on January 8. He was reportedly taken to a farmhouse in the province of Rovigo, where he was stripped, assaulted, and filmed to ensure compliance with demands for cash, credit cards, and bank transfers. The victim was later moved to a residence in the province of Reggio Emilia, where further violence occurred before he was taken to the post office. Five of the suspects also face charges for the illegal possession of semi-automatic pistols and ammunition.
