Brescia pushes sustainable urban upgrades with new tram line and decorative electric cabinets

The city of Brescia has launched two major urban initiatives. On July 20, 2026 the municipality, utility Unareti and energy company A2A unveiled ten newly decorated electric cabinets, bringing the total number of artistically treated installations to 120 since the program began in 2018. The designs feature abstract geometric patterns and a colour palette drawn from A2A’s branding, applied with eco‑friendly paints and an anti‑smog coating that helps reduce atmospheric pollutants.

Separately, Brescia began construction of the €426 million T2 tram line connecting the Pendolina neighbourhood with the Fiera district. The 11.3‑km line, built by a consortium of Manelli Impresa, Alstom and Hitachi Rail, is slated for completion in 2030 and is expected to shift commuters from cars to public transport, lowering traffic congestion and CO₂ emissions. Mayor Laura Castelletti and Brescia Mobilità officials highlighted the project’s role in advancing the city’s sustainable mobility strategy and meeting EU decarbonisation targets.
