Brescia reopens first section of Garza Nord cycling‑pedestrian path

The municipality of Brescia and Brescia Infrastrutture have reopened the southern portion of the Garza Nord cycling‑pedestrian route, which runs along a new embankment beside the Torrente Garza. The work, part of a flood‑risk mitigation programme, involved hydraulic safety upgrades and the restructuring of the riverbed to ensure steady water flow during high water.

The reopening restores a first segment of the network, improving soft‑mobility links for residents while the northern stretch remains closed for further construction. A new pedestrian‑cyclist bridge over the Garza, replacing an existing structure that impeded water discharge, is scheduled for inauguration on 23 July 2026. Design changes required additional approvals from authorities such as AIPO, extending the project timeline. A private‑sector partner is also coordinating work to optimise the overall infrastructure and hydraulic system.

The project aims to enhance both flood safety for the northern part of the city and the continuity of Brescia’s cycling‑pedestrian network.
