Brescia supermarket suspended over food safety violations

A supermarket in Brescia has been ordered to suspend all food trade activities following inspections by the Carabinieri and the Agro-food Protection Nucleus of Bergamo. The investigation uncovered several significant food safety and labeling violations.

Authorities seized 71 liters of oil, contained in 90 bottles, which were being sold as extra virgin olive oil but did not meet the declared quality standards. Additionally, 150 kilograms of pre-packaged foods were seized due to labeling irregularities.

Furthermore, approximately 420 kilograms of meat and fish were ordered for immediate destruction because they were found in poor condition and lacked the necessary documentation for traceability. The supermarket's legal representative has been reported to the authorities, and the establishment faces 44,000 euros in administrative fines related to HACCP procedures, traceability, and the sale of expired products.
