Brescia trial examines abuse allegations against former councilor and family

A trial is underway in Brescia involving Balwinder Singh, a former city councilor, his wife Baljeet Kaur, and their son Lovepreet Singh. The family members face various charges related to the maltreatment of the couple's two daughters.

During recent hearings presided over by Cesare Bonamartini, witnesses including friends and a boyfriend provided testimony regarding alleged domestic violence, restrictions on personal freedom, and sexual abuse. One witness, a former classmate of the eldest daughter, testified that the parents restricted her romantic relationships, allegedly preferring an arranged marriage with an Indian man over local partners. Other testimonies described physical violence and reprimands related to household chores.

While the parents are charged with maltreatment, Lovepreet Singh also faces allegations of sexual violence against his sisters. The court is currently evaluating these testimonies and other evidence; no final criminal responsibility has been established by a definitive sentence.
