Brett Muvet launches movement to form Zimbabwe Government in Exile
Political activist Brett Muvet, leader of the new movement Varanda Ve Zimbabwe (Servants of Zimbabwe), has announced plans to establish a “Government in Exile” to challenge the administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Muvet intends to operate from outside Zimbabwe, citing a closed political space within the country. His proposed strategy involves a two-phase approach: first, the formation of a government in exile to organize and train personnel in governance and security, followed by a revolution aimed at seizing power through “people power” rather than armed conflict. He cited the 2017 ouster of Robert Mugabe as a precedent for such a movement.
The movement focuses on addressing socio-economic issues, including shortages of clean water, medicine, and employment opportunities. Muvet has also addressed controversy regarding the movement's name, noting that while some Shona and Ndebele speakers expressed reservations, he intends to keep the name Varanda Ve Zimbabwe to signify being “servants” rather than “slaves.”
