Brexit commemorative 50p coin listed on eBay for over £7,000

A 50p coin issued in 2020 to commemorate the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union has been listed on eBay for £7,086.70. The listing, posted by a seller in Brentwood, Essex, represents a price approximately 14,000 times the coin's face value.

The coin features the final coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, on the obverse side. The reverse side bears the inscription: “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations.”

While the asking price is high, the Royal Mint has stated that the coin is not considered rare, as approximately 10 million units were released into circulation. The Mint noted that the piece marks a significant historical moment, celebrating the conclusion of the UK’s 47-year membership in the EU.
