Breza miners strike over unpaid wages in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Miners at the Breza Lignite Mine in Bosnia and Herzegovina have entered a strike, demanding the payment of outstanding wages from August. The Breza Mine Union has announced plans to protest in front of the Elektroprivreda BiH building in Sarajevo if a resolution is not reached.

Muamer Dedić, a miner with 27 years of experience, expressed severe financial hardship, stating he has reached a point where he cannot provide for his children. While government officials discuss investments in mines and a just transition, workers are focused on immediate wage arrears and job security.

Although there have been reports of declining coal production due to the relocation of mechanisms to new excavation capacities, workers maintain they have provided sufficient coal to justify their pay. Despite promises from Elektroprivreda BiH to resolve the issue, miners report that no payments have been made as of the latest deadline.
