Breznik enters Bulgaria’s top 10 municipalities for highest average salaries
The municipality of Breznik has emerged as one of Bulgaria’s wealthiest regions, entering the top 10 municipalities for highest average salaries. According to 2024 data from the National Statistical Institute and research by the Institute for Market Economics, the average monthly wage in Breznik has reached 1,219 euros. This represents an increase of over 120% over the last five years, driven by gold mining, construction, and industrial sectors.
Breznik’s average salary surpasses major economic hubs such as Varna (1,128 euros) and Plovdiv (1,058 euros). The national ranking of high-wage municipalities highlights the dominance of industrial and energy sectors. Kozloduy holds the top position with an average salary of 1,971 euros, largely driven by the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. Other high-ranking municipalities include Chelopech (1,860 euros) and Pirdop (1,480 euros), both supported by the mining industry.
The data suggests a trend where small industrial municipalities are becoming among the highest-earning areas in the country, outperforming much larger urban centers.
