BRI expands solar energy access for rural and disaster-affected areas

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, through its BRI Peduli social and environmental responsibility program, is expanding access to clean energy via its Solar Energy for Rural Areas and Post-Disaster Recovery Program. This initiative aligns with national development goals to promote sustainable energy, strengthen village-based economic growth, and increase resilience against climate change and disasters.

The program has extended solar electrification to various regions, including rural areas in West Java and disaster-affected zones in North Sumatra and Aceh. In Bojong Village, West Java, the bank installed an off-grid solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 17.4 kWp and 43.2 kWh of energy storage.

This facility supports public services at the village hall and powers egg-laying poultry farms managed by the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). The solar installation is expected to prevent up to 75 hours of service disruptions per year due to power outages and could potentially increase egg production by more than 10 percent, boosting the local village economy.
