BRI officer drives micro‑enterprise growth in Indonesia’s Talaud Islands

Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) field officer Andrew Christy Darea, head of the Beo unit at the Tahuna branch, regularly travels across the remote Talaud Islands in North Sulawesi. He covers dozens of villages, often spending up to two hours on unpaved, mud‑filled roads to meet hundreds of micro‑, small‑ and medium‑enterprise (UMKM) borrowers.

His clients are mainly coconut, nutmeg and clove farmers, as well as fishers, traders and other small‑business owners. During visits Darea discusses financial management and introduces BRI’s digital services, including the BRImo mobile app and QRIS payment system. The officer says the ongoing support has helped many enterprises expand, increase family income and create additional jobs.

BRI corporate secretary Dhanny highlighted Darea’s dedication as a model of how branch staff can stay close to customers in hard‑to‑reach areas, ensuring that banking and credit remain accessible for sustainable local development.
