BRI provides floating banking services in North Maluku
Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is utilizing its floating banking service, Teras BRI Kapal Bahtera Seva II, to provide financial access to remote island communities in North Maluku. Wiranto Jumran, a BRI officer from the Bacan Unit under the Ternate Branch, manages hundreds of debtors across 34 villages spanning seven islands.
The service primarily supports local residents working as fishermen, farmers, and small traders. Due to challenging maritime conditions, such as high waves and strong winds, the team occasionally must transition from the floating vessel to rubber boats and traverse steep terrain to reach their destinations. The initiative aims to bring savings and loan services closer to coastal areas with limited formal financial access.
