Indonesian banking credit shows growth in West Java and BRI

The Indonesian banking sector shows varied performance across different regions and institutions. In West Java, credit distribution reached Rp1,120 trillion by June 2026, representing an 8.58 percent year-on-year growth. While West Java remains the second-largest contributor to national credit after DKI Jakarta, the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) noted rising credit quality pressures for regional banks (BPR/BPRS) and a slowdown in construction sector financing.

In contrast, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) reported strong growth through the second quarter of 2026. BRI's credit distribution reached Rp1,646 trillion, a 16.2 percent increase compared to the previous year, outpacing the national banking industry growth of 12.7 percent. BRI's total assets grew to Rp2,352 trillion, supported by a 6.7 percent increase in third-party funds (DPK) to Rp1,581 trillion.
