Brian Cage discusses PED use and past WWE career struggles
AEW wrestler Brian Cage recently addressed his use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and his past attempts to return to WWE during an appearance on the Smooth Vega podcast. Cage confirmed that he currently uses testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at age 42 and has used PEDs in the past. He argued that such substances do not automatically improve athletic skill, flexibility, or in-ring ability, noting that results still require intense training and genetics.
Cage also reflected on a period of professional frustration following his initial release from WWE. He detailed several failed attempts to rejoin the company, including a contract that was rescinded and a casting for the reality show ‘Tough Enough’ that was later revoked. He recounted a specific instance where he was told by an official that a post-WrestleMania return was possible, only to later receive a message stating the company had changed its mind and viewed him as ‘average at best.’
While Cage stated that he no longer views a return to WWE as a professional necessity, he noted that his personal and financial situations improved once he stopped focusing on re-signing with the promotion. He remains open to future opportunities with WWE but continues his current tenure with AEW.
