Brian Flores' lawyers allege racial stereotypes in unsealed NFL recruiting memo
Lawyers for Brian Flores claim that a recently unsealed recruiting memo used by the Las Vegas Raiders contains racial stereotypes and serves as evidence of unlawful retaliation following his racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL.
The document, prepared by the search firm Korn Ferry during the Raiders' 2024 head-coaching search, was made public after a magistrate judge rejected efforts to keep it confidential. The report lists several weaknesses for Flores, including claims that he can be “erratic,” “unpredictable,” and “difficult with ownership.” It also notes that he “can be a dictator with players, coaches, and can even be difficult with ownership.”
Flores’ attorneys argue the memo demonstrates that systemic discrimination and retaliation remain prevalent in NFL hiring processes. They state the candidate profile “leans heavily on racial stereotypes” and that the legal action aims to eradicate institutional racism within the league and its partner organizations. Flores currently serves as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings.
