Brian Langrin appointed Governor of the Bank of Jamaica

Economist Dr. R. Brian Langrin has been appointed as the new Governor of the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), effective Wednesday, August 19. He succeeds Richard Byles, who is completing a seven-year term.

The appointment was made by the Governor-General in Council following a selection process conducted by a search committee established in April. The committee evaluated both local and international candidates.

Dr. Langrin brings over two decades of experience in central banking, economic research, and financial stability. He previously held senior positions at the BOJ and served as a financial stability adviser at the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC), an IMF-administered body. He holds a doctorate in economics from Pennsylvania State University.

Finance Minister Fayval Williams emphasized that Langrin’s expertise in the Caribbean and international development will be vital as Jamaica navigates global economic uncertainty. Upon his appointment, Langrin stated his commitment to maintaining the central bank’s independence, keeping inflation low, and modernizing the nation's financial system.
