Brian Mason plans sideline return for Colts season opener

Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason intends to return to the sideline for the team’s season opener against Baltimore on September 13. Mason is recovering from a major left knee injury sustained during a preseason game against New England, when players collided with his legs during a final play.

While Coach Shane Steichen previously stated Mason would work from the press box for the remainder of the preseason, Mason expressed his commitment to being on the field for the regular season. He emphasized the necessity of being on the sideline to facilitate quick communication with players, noting that the team lacks direct coach-to-player communication systems.

Mason disclosed a significant history of knee injuries, including four previous ACL tears sustained during high school and college, as well as injuries occurring during basketball and while landscaping.
