Brian May criticizes AI and warns against UK data centers

Queen guitarist Sir Brian May has expressed strong opposition to the development of artificial intelligence, arguing that humanity does not need the technology. May shared his concerns on Instagram after using Meta AI to attempt a recreation of the cover for the band’s 1980 album, ‘The Game’. He criticized the output as inaccurate, noting that the AI-generated image incorrectly included five band members instead of the original four.

Beyond the quality of the technology, May voiced serious concerns regarding the physical infrastructure required for AI. He specifically targeted the construction of data centers, describing them as ‘hideous’ and warning that they threaten to destroy the landscape of the United Kingdom, drawing parallels to his view of similar developments in the United States. He called for intervention to prevent the expansion of these facilities.
