Brian Mundubile's Zambian Campaign Hit by Government Block on Donation Platform

Zambian opposition leader Brian Mundubile has seen the government block the online platform that was receiving public donations for his presidential campaign. The move comes as Mundubile, running on the little‑known National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), campaigns across 116 districts in ten provinces with a shoestring budget, while incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema enjoys state resources and multinational corporate support.

Mundubile told the BBC that Zambians are feeling “liberated,” describing a surge in popularity for his people‑centred policies that place women and youth at the centre of economic transformation. A recent poll released by a European mission in Lusaka highlighted rural voters’ priorities – free education, cash transfers and school feeding – which align with the NRPUP manifesto.

The opposition candidate also faces restrictions on travel, communications and media coverage, and his passport and phones have reportedly been seized by state authorities.
