Brian Rodríguez explains decision to stay at Club América over Ajax move

Uruguayan footballer Brian Rodríguez has explained why he declined a potential transfer to the Dutch club Ajax to remain with Club América in Mexico.

Rodríguez revealed that while both he and the club were convinced a move to Europe was the right next step, he requested that his representative pause negotiations to allow him to focus on winning the Leagues Cup. Although Club América was ultimately eliminated in the tournament's semifinals, the player decided to stay with the Mexican side, citing his happiness with the team and the support from club officials including Santiago Baños and manager Guillermo Almada.

Rodríguez has been under contract with Club América since 2022, with his current deal running until mid-2029.
