Brianza film enters competition at Rome Film Festival

The film ‘Brianza’, directed by Simone Catania, has been entered into competition at the 21st Rome Film Festival. It marks the first Italian film to compete in this year’s edition.

Set in 2009 during the aftermath of the global economic crisis, the story follows the heir to a prestigious armory in the Brianza region, played by Fausto Russo Alesi. Facing heavy debt and the threat of losing his social standing, the character is drawn into an embezzlement scheme by an eccentric businessman, portrayed by Paolo Pierobon.

Catania describes the setting of Brianza as a metaphor for the modern Western world, where capitalism and the subsequent economic fallout impact lives accustomed to wealth and stability.
