Brick man arrested after high-speed pursuit near high school

Corey Goodwin, 38, of Brick, was arrested following a high-speed pursuit near Brick Memorial High School on Tuesday morning. The incident began around 7 a.m. when a police officer conducting traffic enforcement on Lanes Mill Road observed a vehicle stopped on the shoulder for an unsafe student drop-off.

After the officer noted Goodwin was not wearing a seatbelt and directed him to a nearby parking lot, Goodwin allegedly accelerated northbound at speeds clocked at 73 mph. During the flight, he reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and nearly struck two uniformed school crossing guards who had stopped traffic in both directions.

Following a vehicle pursuit, Goodwin stopped at a residence and fled on foot through backyards and near a creek. He was eventually apprehended near Greenwood Loop Road. Goodwin faces multiple charges, including eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer, hindering apprehension, and obstructing the administration of law. A records check also revealed two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
