BRICS leaders emphasize strategic role of New Development Bank
During the BRICS summit, leaders emphasized the strategic importance of the New Development Bank (NDB) in driving modernization and infrastructure development across the Global South. Dilma Rousseff, president of the NDB, stated that Russia's participation in the bank is essential for strengthening the Global South and noted that approved projects must benefit all member nations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for expanding the bank's activities, programs, and economic sectors within member countries. He also advocated for the development of new digital and investment platforms to increase the bank's operational capacity.
A joint declaration from the summit acknowledged Russia for hosting the 11th NDB Annual Meeting in Moscow in May 2026. The document described the NDB as a “robust and strategic agent of development” for shareholder countries and emerging markets. The summit also recognized India's 2026 presidency and expressed support for China's upcoming 2027 presidency.
