BRICS Parliamentary Forum condemns Pahalgam attack
During the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, member nations issued a joint declaration strongly condemning the April 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 deaths.
The declaration reaffirmed a commitment to combating terrorism in all forms, specifically targeting the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing, and the existence of safe havens. Participants called for zero tolerance toward terrorism and rejected any double standards in counter-terrorism efforts, emphasizing that such acts should not be associated with any specific religion, nationality, or ethnic group.
Beyond security, the forum addressed the need for United Nations reform, advocating for a more representative UN Security Council that reflects the current global order. Members also criticized unilateral economic sanctions that lack broad international agreement, noting their negative impact on civilian access to essential services like food and healthcare. The group urged the expedited adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the UN.
