BRICS+ Summit in New Delhi issues declaration for multipolar world order

The 18th BRICS+ Summit, held in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026, under India’s chairmanship, concluded with the unanimous approval of the New Delhi Declaration. Under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,' the expanded bloc—which now includes eleven members including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates—aimed to promote a more multipolar and representative international order.

The declaration emphasizes the need for reform in global governance and a more equitable representation within the United Nations. While the bloc faces internal challenges and diverse geopolitical interests, it represents approximately 40% of the global economy. Key discussions included the role of the New Development Bank, which has $100 billion in authorized capital, and the promotion of local-currency trade and payment interoperability to diversify away from traditional financial systems.
