Bride Marries in Emergency Room in Rodrigues Alves, Acre, Brazil
On 30 May 2024, 39‑year‑old manicure Francisca Mesquita da Silva experienced a severe headache, nausea and loss of movement in her left side while waiting to be married in Rodrigues Alves, Acre. She was taken to the Unidade Mista de Saúde, where doctors noted a blood pressure of 16/11 and feared a possible stroke.
Judge Mirella Ribeiro, who had officiated a collective wedding at the local stadium, went to the hospital and performed the civil ceremony in the emergency‑room ward. Francisca’s fiancé, Francisco Jander Costa Bezerra, stood beside her as the magistrate asked each to confirm their consent. The couple, part of the Projeto Cidadão that registered 91 couples that day, exchanged vows and rings before a video released by the Tribunal de Justiça do Acre.
Both expressed relief and joy that the unexpected setting turned into a memorable celebration.
