Bridge collapse in Bihar's Vaishali injures several workers

A portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in the Jalalpur area of Bihar’s Vaishali district on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at a construction site for an overbridge on the Gandak River corridor near Jalalpur village.

Reports indicate that a launcher used in the construction of a four-lane highway collapsed, injuring between five and seven labourers. One worker, a resident of the neighboring Muzaffarpur district, was reportedly trapped beneath the iron structure and required rescue teams to use gas cutters to reach him.

Local residents expressed anger regarding the emergency response and alleged that workers were not provided with adequate safety equipment, such as safety belts. Some villagers also claimed that parts of the structure had shown signs of sinking prior to the accident. Administrative officials, including the SDPO of Lalganj Sadar-2 and the Block Development Officer, arrived at the scene to oversee rescue efforts and manage crowds.
