Venezuela faces severe flooding and infrastructure damage from Tropical Wave 40

Heavy rainfall triggered by Tropical Wave No. 40 has caused widespread flooding and infrastructure damage across Venezuela, particularly in the Greater Caracas area and the state of Miranda. The intense precipitation led to the overflow of the Valle River, which flooded the Valle-Coche highway and trapped numerous vehicles. Significant flooding was also reported in the Coche and La Rinconada Metro stations, as well as along the Panamericana highway in the Las Minas sector.

In response to the emergency, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez ordered the activation of the National Civil Protection System. Authorities, including Caracas Mayor Carmen Meléndez and various emergency brigades, have been deployed to monitor high-risk areas, clear debris, and assist affected communities. In the state of Aragua, heavy rains caused power outages and fallen trees in Maracay.

Additionally, the collapse of the El Pao bridge in the San Sebastián de los Reyes municipality has disrupted strategic transit between the states of Guárico and Aragua. Government officials from both states are coordinating technical inspections and the deployment of heavy machinery to establish provisional passage, with plans to install a metallic structure to restore definitive connectivity.
