Bridge construction and maintenance projects underway in Canada and the US
Infrastructure projects are underway on two separate bridges in North America. In Sicamous, Canada, the Bruhn Bridge construction schedule is returning to daytime closures on Highway 1. Starting September 16, daily closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the bridge remaining open on Sundays. Drivers will be detoured via Highway 97A and 97B. Additionally, the Finlayson Street boat launch will close from September 14 to 23 to accommodate storm drainage system installation.
In the United States, preservation work is being completed on the 88-year-old Capital Avenue Bridge, also known as the War Mothers Memorial Bridge. A $925,000 contract awarded to DeLong Concrete LLC includes replacing the deck surface with a latex overlay, repairing joints, and upgrading bridge approaches. To address sidewalk deterioration, contractors applied an epoxy sand slurry to the concrete, resulting in a textured, ‘wet’ appearance. The project is expected to be finished by November 1.
