Bridlington shelter cat gives birth to nine kittens

A shelter in Bridlington, UK, reported an unusual event after a three-year-old cat named Lottie gave birth to a litter of nine kittens. While typical litters range from four to six kittens, Lottie produced four females and five males in a single birth.

Lottie was discovered wandering in Wold Newton without a collar or microchip several weeks ago. Shelter manager Sophie Gibbon-Roles described the cat as a “brave and devoted” mother. The shelter has noted a 41% increase in the number of cats and kittens cared for this year compared to the same period last year.

Staff emphasized the importance of spaying and neutering pets to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the pressure on already overwhelmed rescue facilities.
