Brighton & Hove Albion preseason camp cancelled after G7 summit helicopter damage

Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion had to scrap its planned preseason training camp in Evian‑les‑Bains, France, after the G7 leaders' helicopter landing zone ruined the turf. The summit, held 15‑17 June 2026, saw aircraft carrying U.S. President Donald Trump, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron land on the field used by Brighton for its July 23‑August 1 training period at the Royal Resort near the Swiss border.

An inspection found the grass unrecoverable, forcing the club to abandon the French camp, cancel a friendly against Annecy, and resume training at its Lancing base in England. Brighton arranged a private intra‑squad match and will travel to Austria for a new camp, while its scheduled games against Strasbourg, Roma and Bologna remain on track.
