Brihuega hosts national forum for rural female entrepreneurship

The town of Brihuega hosted the national forum ‘Juntas hacemos territorio’ (Together we make territory) at the San Miguel church to mark the International Day of Rural Women. Organized by the Ministry of Equality and the Institute for Women, the event gathered female entrepreneurs from across Spain to discuss networks, alliances, and cooperation models for the future of rural areas.

Key participants included the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo; the Castilla-La Mancha Equality Counselor, Sara Simón; and the Undersecretary for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Miguel González. Discussion panels focused on how women transform territories through social and solidarity economies, covering sectors such as agriculture, livestock, crafts, environmental education, and caregiving.

Brihuega Mayor Luis Viejo highlighted the town’s efforts to combat demographic decline by leveraging local resources, such as aromatic plant cultivation and heritage rehabilitation. He emphasized that securing a future for rural towns requires providing women with real opportunities to act as protagonists rather than mere spectators.
