Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh granted final chance to reply in wrestlers' appeal

A Delhi court has granted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh a final opportunity to file a response to an appeal challenging his acquittal. The Rouse Avenue court directed Singh to submit his reply within one week, stating that no further extensions would be provided.

The appeal was filed by four women wrestlers contesting the August 3 judgment that acquitted Singh and former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation charges. The appellants argue that the trial court's decision was legally unsustainable, claiming it relied on a selective assessment of evidence and “archaic and stereotypical assumptions” regarding the expected behavior of sexual assault victims.

The court has previously ordered that original documents containing the victims' names be kept in a sealed envelope and that the appeal petition be submitted with names redacted to protect confidentiality. The matter has been listed for further hearing on November 20.
