Brijmohan Agarwal seeks expansion of Raipur Police Commissionerate
BJP MP Brijmohan Agarwal has called for the expansion of the Raipur Police Commissionerate to encompass the entire Raipur district. In a letter addressed to authorities, Agarwal argued that the current system is "powerless" and lacks sufficient authority to deter criminals. He also noted a structural imbalance, claiming there are too many officers and too few ground-level personnel.
BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar supported the proposal, suggesting that the city should not be divided into fragments and should instead be managed under a unified commissioner system.
Home Minister Vijay Sharma stated that a proposal for the expansion of the Raipur Commissionerate has been received and that all aspects of the request will be deliberated. The current Commissionerate system, which was implemented on January 23, 2026, presently covers the Raipur Municipal Corporation area and includes 21 police stations.
