BRIN develops 19 herbal medicine candidates to boost national drug independence
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is developing 19 herbal medicine candidates aimed at achieving phytopharmaca status. This initiative follows directives from President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen Indonesia's national drug independence by optimizing the country's rich spice resources.
Currently, several candidates are classified as Standardized Herbal Medicines (OHT). BRIN is working to elevate these to phytopharmaca status, which requires passing rigorous clinical trials and meeting standardized scientific evidence requirements. To accelerate this process, BRIN is coordinating with the Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM).
