Brindisi administration faces criticism over summer event schedule

The summer event schedule in Brindisi has sparked political controversy following criticism from local artist Giuseppe Ninno, known as Mandrake, and former council member Gianluca Quarta.

Ninno criticized the local administration for its late programming and failure to adequately value local artists. He contested claims that the local public lacks interest in municipal events, noting that large crowds for his recent performances in nearby Ostuni traveled from Brindisi. In response to the tension, the municipality of Mesagne confirmed it will host a free performance by Mandrake in early September at Piazza Porta Grande, an event that had been planned in advance.

Gianluca Quarta, a former Brindisi council member, further criticized Mayor Pino Marchionna, characterizing the administration's response to criticism as an attempt to divert attention from logistical failures and a lack of strategic vision. Quarta specifically cited issues regarding urban decorum and the late presentation of the summer calendar as signs of administrative incompetence.
