Brindisi bus services face scrutiny over overcrowding and safety
Regional Councilor Tommaso Gioia has called for a hearing within the Puglia Region's Transport Commission to address severe service disruptions and overcrowding on Ferrovie del Sud Est (FSE) buses in the province of Brindisi. The hearing, scheduled for October 15, 2026, will include the CEO of FSE and the Regional Councilor for Mobility to discuss insufficient vehicles during peak hours and the resulting safety risks for students.
Dario Pierfederici, provincial secretary of the Fit Cisl union, also highlighted systemic issues regarding school transport. He noted that the autonomy of schools in managing their own schedules contributes to resource dispersion and overcrowding. Pierfederici warned that students traveling standing up on long extra-urban routes face significant safety hazards during sudden braking. He also cited risks to drivers caused by illegal parking in bus bays and students attempting to board moving vehicles.
