Brindisi councilors seek Complex Industrial Crisis Area status
Local councilors Lino Luperti and Michelangelo Greco have called upon the Puglia Region and the Italian government to officially recognize Brindisi as a ‘Complex Industrial Crisis Area’. They argue that the ongoing industrial transformation in the territory affects not only major plants but also an extensive network of suppliers, service providers, maintenance firms, logistics, and specialized manufacturing companies.
The proposal seeks to accelerate institutional processes to provide extraordinary protection for workers. Key requested measures include access to extraordinary redundancy funds (cassa integrazione) and income support tools to prevent permanent job losses during operational shifts.
Luperti and Greco emphasize that these economic measures should serve as a ‘bridge toward new work’ by integrating financial support with professional training, requalification, and upskilling programs aligned with new industrial investments and activities planned for the region.
