Brindisi flooding prompts calls for unified infrastructure management

Following intense rainfall and flooding in Brindisi, calls have been made for the municipal government to take central leadership over infrastructure interventions. While recent works on the white sewer system at the corner of via Tor Pisana and via Appia showed success in managing water, several areas remain chronically prone to flooding, including the station underpass, via Vespucci, and the Cappuccini district.

Critics argue the flooding is a structural issue rather than a purely meteorological one. There is significant tension regarding the division of responsibility between various entities, including the Municipality, Ferrovie dello Stato, RFI, Acquedotto Pugliese, and the Consorzio di bonifica dell’Arneo. To prevent the dispersion of resources and resolve recurring issues, there is a demand for the Municipality to establish a permanent technical committee to coordinate all stakeholders and contractors under a single management framework.
