Brindisi administration faces criticism over summer programming

A political debate has erupted in Brindisi regarding the city's summer event programming and its long-term tourism strategy. Mayor Giuseppe Marchionna defended the administration's recent cultural calendar, citing logistical constraints such as the unavailability of major venues including Piazzale Lenio Flacco, the Municipal Stadium, and the Montecatini warehouse.

The Mayor argued that the current program aims to involve all city districts despite limited financial resources. However, critics, including former councilman Gianluca Quarta and local citizens, have accused the administration of a lack of strategic vision and competence. Critics noted that the late rollout of the summer schedule and the failure to manage urban spaces effectively hinder the city's ability to become a true tourist destination.

The controversy was further intensified by statements from performer Giuseppe Ninno, known as Mandrake. Ninno criticized the administration for failing to value local artists and suggested that residents are indeed interested in local events, pointing to a large turnout at a recent performance in Ostuni. In response to the backlash, Mayor Marchionna extended an invitation to Ninno to visit the municipal offices.
