Brindisi opposition protests Grandparents' Day spending

Opposition councilors in Brindisi have criticized the municipal administration following the approval of Resolution No. 416, which authorizes the ‘Festeggiamo i Nonni’ event scheduled for October 9 at the Teatro Impero.

The opposition members, including Diego Rachiero, Francesco Cannalire, and others, expressed deep concern regarding the timing and cost of the initiative. They noted that while the legal date for Grandparents' Day is October 2, the administration only approved the resolution on that same day, leading to a one-week delay and poor communication with citizens.

Furthermore, the councilors challenged the expenditure of 12,997.60 euros (including VAT) for a single entertainment event. They described the amount as disproportionate, especially compared to a 5,000-euro expenditure in 2024 that was also contested. The opposition has called for the withdrawal of the act, suggesting the funds should instead be redirected toward charitable initiatives for the elderly in collaboration with the third sector.
