Brink Forest Products announces major layoffs in Houston, B.C
Brink Forest Products has implemented significant layoffs in Houston, British Columbia, reducing the workforce at its Pleasant Valley Remanufacturing plant to a single employee. The company owner, John Brink, cited a combination of economic retraction and high American tariffs and duties, which have reached 50 per cent, as primary drivers for the downsizing.
The company’s operations in northern British Columbia are also heavily impacted; the Vanderhoof mill has closed entirely, and the Prince George mill is currently functioning at only one-quarter of its normal capacity. Brink noted that the trade tensions between Canada and the United States, alongside provincial forestry policies, have created a difficult environment for both primary and secondary manufacturers in the industry.
