Brinks Home breach exposes 4.9 million Salesforce records

Dallas‑based home security provider Brinks Home announced that it detected unauthorized access to its IT systems on July 20. The intrusion is attributed to the hacking group ShinyHunters, which claims to have stolen more than 4.9 million records from the company’s Salesforce database, including personal identifiable information. ShinyHunters warned it would leak the data and cause “annoying digital problems” unless a ransom is paid by July 30.

Brinks Home said its alarm monitoring and system functionality remain normal, that it has engaged external cybersecurity experts, and that it will notify any individuals whose data may be affected. The company cautioned customers against unsolicited communications that could be phishing attempts. The FBI noted that ShinyHunters often exaggerates claims to pressure victims. Brinks Home’s parent, Monitronics, has previously filed for bankruptcy twice.
