Brisbane 2032: Rockhampton approved for rowing as emblem is revealed
The International Olympic Committee has approved the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton as the venue for rowing and canoe sprint events during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli welcomed the decision, noting it would deliver a lasting legacy for Central Queensland.
However, local leaders in the Scenic Rim have expressed that Wyaralong Dam, home to the Queensland State Rowing Centre, remains a viable alternative. Federal Member Scott Buchholz and Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp emphasized the importance of developing Wyaralong as a world-class facility for South East Queensland regardless of the final venue selection.
In a separate development related to the 2032 Games, the Sunshine Coast celebrated the reveal of the official Brisbane 2032 emblem. As a Co-Host City, the Sunshine Coast will host events including the marathon and road cycling. The emblem reveal featured Olympic champion Natalie Cook and Paralympian Alexa Leary at Wild Horse Mountain.
