Brisbane economy exceeds $200 billion amid major investment

Brisbane is entering a significant phase of economic development, with its economy now exceeding $200 billion, according to a report by Deloitte commissioned by the Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA). The city is currently managing over $100 billion in major projects, supported by preparations for the 2032 Olympic Games which are accelerating upgrades to transport, tourism, and precinct infrastructure.

BEDA chief executive Anthony Ryan noted that Brisbane’s strategic position as Australia’s gateway to the Asia-Pacific makes it a compelling location for investors. The region is also seeing rapid demographic shifts, with south-east Queensland’s population projected to approach 6 million by the mid-2040s, creating a large future labor and consumer market.
